Asbestos Abatement Worker

This 40 hour course involves the careful examination of Asbestos Abatement and the skills needed to perform the duties of this work that can be dangerous for workers and the environment. This class is designed stressing the importance of safety in the workplace. Emphases are on the hands on training skills that students will obtain. The skills acquired will assist in student’s successful performance in the work place. Instructor(s) will instruct students to reference federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Successful completion of this course, students will be able to obtain an Asbestos Abatement Workers License from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

 

Asphalt
This 40 hour course provides hands on training in the placement, spreading, and compaction of asphalt materials.

 

Blueprint Reading & Specification
This 40 course involves an examination of Blueprint Reading as a skill. Emphases on scaling, visualization, and solving problems based on individual needs. This is an exploratory, first course in Blueprint Reading. This course also gives a general “feel” of what it is like to be involved in estimating, project managing or performing the duties of superintendent.

 

Bridge Construction
This 40 hour course was designed to satisfy the specific needs of signatory contractors engaged in bridge construction, renovation, and demolition projects.

 

Concrete Year One
This 80 hour course provides classroom instruction and hands on activities related to the concrete industry. That will include sub-grade preparation, concrete estimating, placing and finishing varies styles of slabs on ground construction (which could include, sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots)

 

Concrete Year Two
This 80 hour course provides classroom instruction and hands on activities related to the concrete industry performing “SLABS ON GROUND” work. That will include sub-grade preparation, concrete estimating, placing and finishing varies styles of slabs on ground construction (which could include, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and finished floors)

 

Grade Checking
This is a 40 hour class in which the trainees will learn basic construction surveying, construction staking, electronic theodolite, line and grade checking, and laser tracking level.

 

Hazardous Waste Worker
This is an 80 hour class that will prepare candidates to work with hazardous materials found on various job sites.

 

Landscaping
This 40 hour course provides classroom instruction, hands on activities, and evaluations on Soil Conservation Service standards and specifications, Landscape drainage system, Grading and preparing soil, proper planting and transplanting of trees and shrubs, chemical application and safety, preparing and installing sod beds, seeding and planting grass, plant cover, weed barrier and mulch applications, tree cutting and pruning, chain saw safety and use. Also covered are OSHA PPE 29cfr1926.28, Safety Training and Education 29cfr1926.21, Tools- Hand and Power 29 cfr1926.300, Material Handling & Storage 29cfr1926.250, Fall Protection 29cfr1926.500.

 

Mason Tending
This 40 hour course involves the careful examination of mason tending and the skills needed to perform the duties of this labor intense work. This class is designed stressing the importance of safety in the workplace. Emphases are on the hands on training skills that students will obtain. The skills acquired will assist in student’s successful performance in the work place.

Instructor(s) will instruct students while referencing OSHA regulations Subpart M (fall protection) and Subpart L (scaffolding).

 

New Apprentice
This 43 hour course is required for new apprentices. After the course is completed, an apprentice will have an understanding of OSHA regulations, basic math, and hazard communication, basic rigging/knot tying, back injury prevention, drug/alcohol awareness, sun sense, first aid/CPR, and flagging.

 

Principles of Pipelaying Syllabus
This 40 hour course focuses on trench safety, gravity flow pipe techniques, and pressure pipe.

Approximately one day classroom and the rest of the time consists of hands on training.
